Resentment, Rejection, Regret

The three big issues that I see when dealing with people, and in particular men, is what I call the three R's...

  • Resentment

  • Rejection

  • Regret

A lot of people say to themselves, I don't live with any of that, but on a subconscious level, you probably are.

Resentment

A good example of resentment, is new parents. Their life has gone from having lots of free time, having a nice, tidy house, a career, and all of a sudden you're thrust into parenthood. Simple things like going to the shop takes a long time. The resentment can be as simple as, I really wish I had more time for me. I  wish that I had the time to go and play soccer with the boys during the week. A lot of men are carrying these resentment feelings, and they don't know what to do with them. They almost feel bad for having the feelings, but they're real, and the more I speak to new fathers, the more those issues tend to come up.

Rejection

A lot of people think that rejection just involves relationships with two people, but rejection can be from a friend that all of a sudden has decided to take a different path. But it can also be in the form of employment, you may go for a job interview, and you get rejected for that role. And a lot of the time, it can be a hard pill to swallow. Why didn't I get that? Why was I rejected?

Regret

We all tend to have some form of regret in our life. One example is a male client who had been in the army and regretted not taking a particular action at a particular time. Plus the consequences that occurred from his decision not to take action led to quite a severe case of PTSD, for him. We continued to work through that and continue to do so to this day.
